When ANAPs are configured in high availability (HA) mode, the configuration procedure and topology vary based on the type of ANAP ports and ISP ports that are used.  When either of the ANAPs in the HA pair use the fiber port or if ISP handoffs are of the fiber type, Aryaka recommends using one the following fiber-specific configuration options:   Use a WAN-side switch Use media converters Use redundant cross connects For all of these options, one ANAP serves as the primary ANAP and the other is considered the secondary ANAP. These options are described in the sections that follow. Any equipment or redundant cross connects required for fiber port HA configuration are not automatically provided by Aryaka and may incur additional charges. WAN-side switch If the two ANAPs are configured in edge routed mode (ERM) or inline routed mode (IRM), and at least one fiber port (M1/M2/FM1/FM2) must be active. Aryaka recommends installing an L2 switch on the WAN side.   Depending on the routing mode used, the switch placement differs: ERM—The switch is placed between the ANAP and ISP gateways. IRM—The switch is place between the ANAP and the firewall. With such a configuration. Note that for both modes, there is no need to short circuit the M1 and M2 ports as required when both ports are copper.  The following table describes the wiring combinations and ports supported when using a WAN switch. Wiring Type ANAP 1 ANAP 2 ISP 1 - Firewall Port 1 ISP 2 -  Firewall Port 2 Without WAN switch M1 M2 M1 M2 Copper only Copper only With WAN switch M1 M2 M1 M2 Fiber or copper F1/FM1 F2/FM2 F1/FM1 F2/FM2 M1 F2/FM2 M1 F2/FM2 F1/FM1 M2 F1/FM1 M2 HA connectivity of two ANAPs with two ISPs in ERM Media converters If installing a WAN switch is not an option, you can use fiber-copper media converters. This method is also useful in ERM mode when ISP handoffs are the fiber type. The configuration requires the following:  When both ISP handoffs are the fiber type, each ISP must have a media converter.  The copper M1 and M2 ports of each ANAP connects to a media converter's RJ45 slot. A short circuit is created by connecting a cable between the primary ANAP's M2 port and the secondary ANAP's M1 port.  Each ISP's fiber handoff is inserted into the media converter's fiber port. HA connectivity of two ANAPs with two media converters Using redundant cross connects If the HA ANAP pair needs to be connected to an Aryaka POP using an L2 link, and the ANAPs need to use fiber ports only, high availability can only be achieved using redundant pairs of cross connects.  In this configuration, each fiber port on the ANAP gets an independent fiber connection with the redundant routers in an Aryaka POP.  HA connectivity of two ANAPs with two redundant router cross connects In this topic Related topics ANAP configuration - Edge Routed Mode ANAP configuration - Inline Routed Mode High Availability of ANAPs
