--- title: "FAQ: How is my usage calculated in my Enterprise 2020 contract?" canonical: "https://docs.aryaka.com/space/KNOW/1266843655/FAQ%3A%20How%20is%20my%20usage%20calculated%20in%20my%20Enterprise%202020%20contract%3F" format: markdown --- This topic includes questions users often ask about the variable components in their invoices. ### **What are the variable components in my Enterprise 2020 contract?** There can be four variable components in an Enterprise 2020 contract: - Bursting - Elastic Usage - Inter-region Traffic - Internet Bandwidth Overage ### **What is Bursting?** Bursting is defined as the ability of your sites to exceed their subscribed bandwidth as required in a month. If you anticipate that this capability is needed, you can ask your sales associate to add Bursting SKUs to your Enterprise 2020 contract, for example: *SmartConnect-ENX-Global-PrivateCore-SBW--Bursting* or *SmartConnect-ENX-Regional-PrivateCore-SBW--Bursting*. These SKUs allow Aryaka to track the bursting behaviors of your Global and Regional site types. SmartConnect-EZ and SmartConnect-Pro site types do not support Bursting. When you purchase a Bursting SKU, for example, *SmartConnect-ENX-Global-PrivateCore-SBW-UCM-Bursting*, all your Global sites in the UCM region become eligible for Bursting configuration. You can specify which sites require Bursting using MyAryaka's [site configuration](https://aryakadocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/KNOW/pages/1610214) or you can [contact Aryaka Customer Support](https://aryakadocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/KNOW/pages/1542320) to request this change. When this request is made, the sites are configured with the ability to exceed their subscribed bandwidth at the Rate specified in your contract (for example, 150%). Your Bursting-configured sites may or may not use this additional bandwidth, but you are charged an additional amount (described in the next two sections) if the additional bandwidth is used. **To calculate Bursting usage** Enterprise 2020 performs pooled calculations for a region; even if one site bursts, the region may not have experienced bursting. The calculation for bursting in a region is as follows: `Bursting (Mbps)` = `MAX (0, (Usage of the region - (Base Usage + Elastic Usage )))` `Usage of the region` = `Sum (Usage at each site)` `Usage of a Site` = `MAX (99th percentile (WAN IN), 99th percentile (WAN OUT))` `Base Usage` depends on whether you are currently in the Deployment Window or Subscription Window: - During the Deployment Window: `Base Usage` = `MIN (Subscribed Bandwidth, (MAX (Provisioned, Usage)))` - During the Subscription Window:  `Base Usage` = `Subscribed Bandwidth` `Elastic Usage` = `MAX (0, (Provisioned Bandwidth - Base Usage))` Provisioned bandwidth is the subscribed bandwidth provisioned in the region—that is, the sum of subscribed bandwidth of all relevant sites. > ℹ️ **Calculating the 99th percentile** > ℹ️ > ℹ️ 99th percentile bandwidth usage is calculated separately for data transmitted by a site and data received by a site each month. The 99th percentile used in the Bursting usage calculation is the higher of the transmitted and received 99th percentiles. > ℹ️ > ℹ️ The calculation for 99th percentiles is based on widely accepted network bandwidth usage methodology, which uses 5-minute traffic samples. Dates and times are based on GMT. The 99th percentile is calculated at the end of the month as follows: > ℹ️ > ℹ️ - One day has 288 traffic samples. A month can have between 8,064 and 8,928 traffic samples, depending on the number of days in the month. > ℹ️ - The traffic samples for the month are sorted in descending order, based on the amount of bandwidth usage. > ℹ️ - The top 1% of traffic samples are then removed. This means that the 8 hours in the month where bandwidth usage was highest at the site are not counted towards your Bursting usage. This prevents you from being charged for unusual, short-term bursts. > ℹ️ - The 99th percentile is the highest number remaining and is used to calculate your Bursting usage. **To calculate Bursting cost** `Bursting cost` = `Bursting (Mbps) * Unit Price` `Unit Price` = `Rate * Base Unit Price` The `Rate` and `Base Unit Price` can be found in your contract. ### **What is Elastic Usage?** The Enterprise 2020 contract allows you to configure more of a given service as needed. For example, if you have purchased 10 Global Medium licenses, you can configure an additional five Global Medium licenses if needed. These additional licenses are charged a premium. This Elastic Usage is not limited to site licenses—any purchased SKU can include Elastic Usage. You can add subscribed bandwidth to existing or new sites, request additional HA ANAPs, and so on. An Elastic SKU includes the term Elastic, for example: *SmartManage-ENX-Global-SiteLicense-Medium-Elastic* **To calculate Elastic Usage** To calculate the Elastic Usage on any SKU, Aryaka performs the following calculation: `Elastic Usage = MAX (0, (Provisioned Value - Contracted Value))` The Elastic Usage is then charged a premium of 175% of the original base price. This multiplier is specified in your contract. ### **What is Inter-region Traffic?** You can purchase Regional sites instead of Global ones. Regional sites connect to other sites in the same region at a lower cost than the charge for Global sites. However, any traffic from the Regional site that exits the region gets charged a premium. For example, a Regional site in UCM can send traffic to other Regional, Global, and IaaS sites in the UCM region without incurring the Inter-region charge. However, if the Regional Site in UCM sends traffic to a Regional, Global, or IaaS sites in the APJK region, they are charged a premium. The premium (typically 400%) can be found in your contract. The following is an example of an Inter-region SKU: *SmartConnect-ENX-InterRegion-Multiplier*. **To calculate Inter-region usage** For each Regional site type, Aryaka calculates Inter-region bandwidth usage as follows: `Inter-region BW for a site = MAX (95th percentile (SUM (WAN IN for all inter-regional site-pairs)), 95th percentile (SUM (WAN OUT for all inter-regional site-pairs)))` `Inter-region usage = SUM (Inter-region BW of each site`) **To calculate Inter-region cost** `InterRegion BW cost = Inter-Region BW Usage for the region * Inter-Region Multiplier * Regional Base Price Unit` ### **What is Internet Bandwidth Overage?** If you purchased the Aryaka NGFW-SWG SKU along with any of our Private Access SKUs you are entitled to send internet traffic to an Aryaka POP. In this case, remote users use their NCP clients for VPN access and their internet traffic is sent to the Aryaka POP, which provides Aryaka SASE functionality. This traffic is then sent out to the internet from the Aryaka POP. In addition to the bandwidth reserved for SD-WAN in each Private Access concentrator node, Aryaka reserves an additional amount of Internet Bandwidth for these users. You are charged for any overage on the internet utilization. The following are examples of Internet Bandwidth Overage SKUs: *SmartSecure-ENX-NGFW-SWG-Overage-ROW* or *SmartSecure-ENX-NGFW-SWG-Overage-MainlandChina*. The overage calculation depends on whether you are in the Deployment Window or the Subscription Window. **To calculate Internet Bandwidth usage** - During the Deployment Window: `Overage` = `MAX (0, (Actual Monthly Usage - Entitled Monthly Usage))` `Entitled Monthly Usage (GB)` = `SUM (Base Usage, Bursting Usage)` `Bursting Usage` = `MAX (0, (Unique Users on the network - Base Usage))` `Base Usage` = `MIN (Contracted Users, Unique Users on the network)` `Actual monthly Usage (GB)` = `SUM (WAN IN over internet, WAN OUT over internet)` - During the Subscription Window: `Overage` = `MAX (0, (Actual Monthly Usage - Entitled Monthly Usage))` `Entitled Monthly Usage (GB)` = `SUM (Base Usage, Bursting Usage)` `Bursting Usage` = `MAX (0, (Unique Users on the network - Base Usage))` `Base Usage` = `Contracted Users` `Actual monthly Usage (GB)` = `SUM (WAN IN over the internet, WAN OUT over the internet)`
